Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
