Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
