Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
