I have been playing poker now for about five years, I’ve bet cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and general random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so eloquently called, card on head game. I used to often win, whatever game we were betting and although I liked to call it skill, it was quite tough to justify considering the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was pleased to accept I was having a long-term run of luck.
Then came Poker, or a lot more importantly Texas holdem Poker, made popular by a group of Texas card gamblers in the sixties and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is totally the new black, it really is uber awesome with several of the world’s leading celebs racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan via the TV channels these days and it is possible to not escape from poker, and obviously there’s the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all combined into one for every single player.
So with all of this fresh discovered recognition, with so many Television shows dedicated to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are men and women going to learn that this casino game is all about position!?
Perhaps I must not have so worked up about this, after all the far more folks who struggle with the delicate tactics and approaches necessary for winning consistently at Texas hold’em, the much better it’s for everyone else, correct? I mean, if they can not be troubled to look at all of the accessible facts about why position is so significant, why really should we bother? We need to just be happy there’s another fish at the table!
It’s true, we ought to not encourage idleness with advice and aid. On the other hand, I liken this to a friendly game of football. Naturally the stakes aren’t so superior, except when you see a player having difficulties, you aid them, offer them a few advice, ultimately showing them a way to get pleasure from, like and be grateful for the game as much as you. I am asking all house players to do the same thing with their poker friends who have not quite grasped the subtleties of playing position. Aid them to grow their respect for the game. Obviously, do not attempt to try this one in your local gambling establishment, the sharks won’t take pleasure in you teaching their meal how to swim!
