The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and began wagering poker before reaching his teens.
The young bettor started out wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his primary gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the little poker genius had turned pro and dropped out of school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding 10,000 dollars in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.
The fast speaking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting superstars such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a genuine talent for betting poker except regardless of his achievements in Hold em poker, he favored playing gin.
Stu once said that there may several day be a better NL Hold em gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a far better gin gambler.
In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the best Texas hold’em Poker players in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.
